Parabolan: The Most Powerful Anabolic Ever Approved for Human Use

I’ve been involved in the bodybuilding scene for almost four decades, and I know the enhancement regimens of multiple pros like very few people do.

The 1990s were an interesting era. We call it the golden era of roids — they were still outside the illegal Schedule III designation, and almost all steroids were available in pharmacies globally. Especially in the West, you could find nearly any steroid at the pharmacy in abundance. The UG scene did not yet exist. Whether it was Halotestin by Schering, Winstrol by Upjohn, or Anavar, they were all available with a simple prescription — or sometimes even without one.

And if there was one steroid with truly legendary status, it was Parabolan. It was not easy to obtain, as it was available only in France and Belgium and manufactured by Negma, but if you asked any pro, he would tell you that it was indispensable for contest preparation. Back in the day, there was no real “tren” hype as such — the buzz was around the name Parabolan, and later around Finaplix and Finaject, all of which contained the same extra-potent steroid: trenbolone.

For those who are new to this realm, and for those who already know a thing or two, trenbolone is the most potent steroid ever used in preparation, both in humans and in animals. In different assays and potency evaluations, it was found to be roughly 3 to 5.5 times more potent than testosterone — the primal steroid in the body. And to put this into perspective, Parabolan was the only trenbolone medicine ever approved for human use. That speaks for itself and explains why Parabolan has long been considered the most sought-after steroid.

In steroid pharmacology, a lot of the science is established on animal models, and for good reason. It is the same testosterone that is dominant across mammals, drives the male reproductive system, and serves as a main anabolic pillar in muscle, bones, and other tissues.

However, in science there may be a difference between in vitro models, which are theoretical to a degree, and in vivo trials, so let’s see how trenbolone performs in reality. In carefully controlled trials on growing calves, trenbolone was compared to testosterone. Trenbolone didn’t just achieve similar, or even slightly more favorable, impressive growth — especially in muscle tissue — it did so while the calves consumed less food, demonstrating superior efficiency. Even more intriguingly, the calves on tren weren’t intentionally given less to eat — they voluntarily consumed noticeably less, which hints at trenbolone’s potential for appetite suppression, and especially proves how effective it is as an anabolic agent under restricted-calorie conditions, exactly what pre-competition preparations are all about. This critical trait also makes it highly applicable to all sports that rely on power-to-weight ratio — when the athlete has to achieve maximum performance at minimal weight.

Accordingly, and as you’d expect, the subjects on tren also showed significantly lower body fat percentages. Taken together, this explains why trenbolone is considered the ultimate recomposition agent — it simply helps you gain more muscle while consuming fewer calories and losing more fat tissue.

Trenbolone is a potent androgen. However — and unlike much of the information circulating on the internet — it is less androgenic than testosterone, and much less androgenic than dihydrotestosterone, the most androgenic hormone in the body. Its androgenic-to-anabolic ratio is about 1:9, compared to testosterone, which sets the 1:1 baseline. So trenbolone is about five times more anabolic than testosterone, milligram for milligram, and roughly half as androgenic as testosterone. This ratio of 1:9 makes it a very efficient anabolic agent — in pharmacology, an effective anabolic agent is one that exerts a highly anabolic effect with as little androgenic impact as possible.

Parabolan itself is an exotic derivative of trenbolone, called trenbolone hexahydrobenzylcarbonate. The unique ester hexahydrobenzylcarbonate (HHBC) was used only in Parabolan and is not present in any other steroid. Let me visualize for you how it compares to other esters:

HHBC features a cyclohexylmethyl group bonded via a carbonate linkage, making it bulky and even longer-acting than enanthate, and slightly longer-acting than cypionate. Again, despite the myths floating around online that place the half-life of Parabolan somewhere between trenbolone enanthate and acetate, that’s actually not true — it is actually longer than enanthate, and  This makes it particularly effective for longer cycles and requires less frequent injections.  You may compare some different popular esters compared to Hexahydrobenzylcarbonate (HHBC) below and see why I referred to it as “bulkier” 

The original Parabolan was dosed at 76 mg/ml — a curious number, but for a very specific reason: each 76 mg contains precisely 50 mg of actual trenbolone base.
